Agreeing to these terms
These terms apply when you use this website or hire R&S Cedar Rapids Concrete & Masonry for a job. By browsing the site, contacting us or accepting an estimate, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site or book work with us.
"We," "us" and "our" mean R&S Cedar Rapids Concrete & Masonry. "You" means the person using the site or the homeowner or property owner we're working for. If your signed estimate or contract says something different from these terms, the signed document controls for that job.
What we do
We're a masonry contractor in Cedar Rapids, IA, and we also do concrete work for homes in Cedar Rapids and the cities around it. Our work includes foundation and chimney repair, tuckpointing, brick and stone work, retaining walls, pavers, walkways, fireplaces and outdoor kitchen masonry. The home page lists our services, and our About page tells you more about our crew.
What you read on this site is general information about the trade, not advice for your house and not a quote. Every house is different, so the details of your job are settled during your estimate and in writing.
Estimates and pricing
We offer free on-site estimates with no obligation to hire us. Your estimate is based on what we can see and measure at the visit, so it covers the work described in it and nothing more.
Masonry and concrete jobs sometimes turn up problems that were hidden until the work was open, like rotted framing behind brick, a failed footing or bad soil under a slab. If that happens, we stop, show you what we found and explain the options. We won't do extra work or charge for it until you approve a change in writing or by text or email.
Estimates stay good for the period written on them. After that, material and labor costs may have changed, so we may need to update the price before we schedule.
Scheduling, weather and cancellation
We give you a start date when you accept the estimate, but it's a target, not a promise. Mortar and concrete need the right temperature and dry conditions to cure properly, so we'll move a job for rain, freezing weather or extreme heat rather than put down work that won't last.
Material delays, permit timing, and access problems at the house can also move the schedule. When something changes, we'll let you know as soon as we do.
If you need to cancel or reschedule, please call us at (319) 536-8125 as early as you can. If we've already ordered special or custom materials that can't be returned, or started work, you're responsible for those costs as described in your estimate or contract.
Payment
The payment schedule for your job is written in your estimate or contract. Larger jobs may call for a deposit before we order materials, with the rest due at set stages or when the work is done.
Payment is due by the dates written there. If a balance goes unpaid, we may pause work and use the remedies Iowa law allows to collect it, which can include a lien on the property.
Our guarantee and what it doesn't cover
We're licensed and insured, and we guarantee satisfaction on every job. If something about our work isn't right, call us and we'll come look at it and work with you to fix it. Any written warranty for your job, and how long it lasts, is spelled out in your estimate or contract.
Some things are part of the materials, not defects. Brick, stone and concrete vary in color and texture from batch to batch. Concrete can develop small hairline cracks as it cures and as the ground moves, and new masonry can show a white haze called efflorescence while moisture works its way out.
Our guarantee doesn't cover damage from things we don't control, like ground settling, water from gutters or grading we didn't install, de-icing salt, vehicles heavier than the work was built for, flooding, storms, or changes or repairs made by someone else. It also doesn't cover parts of the house we didn't work on. Beyond what's written in these terms and your contract, we make no other warranties, express or implied, to the extent the law allows.
Limits on our liability
To the extent Iowa law allows, our total liability for any claim about a job is limited to the amount you paid us for that job. We aren't responsible for indirect or consequential losses, like lost use of the property, lost rent or the cost of temporary arrangements.
We're also not responsible for conditions that existed before we started and weren't part of the work, or for underground lines, sprinkler pipes or buried items that weren't marked or pointed out to us. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn't allow us to limit.
If we disagree
Most problems get solved with a phone call, so please come to us first. Call (319) 536-8125 or use our contact page, tell us what's wrong, and give us a fair chance to look at it and make it right.
If we can't settle it between us, either of us may take it to a court in Iowa, including small claims court where the amount qualifies.
Which law applies
These terms, and any work we do for you, are governed by the laws of the State of Iowa, without regard to rules that would apply another state's law.

Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time, and the version posted on this page is the current one. Changes don't affect a job already under a signed estimate or contract unless we both agree in writing.
